Gary is Professor of Pharmacology and Head of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science at Cardiff University. He qualified in pharmacy at the University of Nottingham and The Royal London Hospital. After a period of clinical practice in hospitals in East Anglia, he undertook research training in cardiovascular pharmacology. After postdoctoral work at University College London and the Cape Heart Centre, University of Cape Town, he was appointed Senior Lecturer at University College London. In 2002, he was appointed Reader in Cardiovascular Biology at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London. In 2007, Gary moved to Cardiff University and has been Head of School since 2010. Gary’s research activity is focused on myocardial ischaemia and reperfusion injury. He was awarded the Society’s Bill Bowman Travelling Lectureship in 1996 and was on the BJP Editorial Board 1999-2003. He teaches physiology, pharmacology and therapeutics within the undergraduate Master of Pharmacy programme.
